Flavocoxid
Botanical medical food is slowly gaining in popularity among physicians. It is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration for safety purposes and is not created in a lab out of synthetic materials.
One botanical medical food that is useful for those suffering from osteoarthritis is Limbrel, known generically as Flavocoxid. It is available by Canadian prescriptions or valid American prescriptions from online Canadian pharmacies. It is practical and easy when you order from a Canadian drugs store. Limbrel (Flavocoxid) is made of a mixture of plant bark and root extracts which contain substances known as Flavonoids.
When the joints in the body experience the breakdown of cartilage pain, stiffness, and a loss of movement can occur. Limbrel (Flavocoxid) works by preventing the production of COX (cyclooxygenase) and LOX (lipooxygenase) enzymes which cause the inflammation and pain. Limbrel (Flavocoxid) is an anti-inflammatory medication.
Because Limbrel (Flavocoxid) is classified as a medical food, it is generally recognized as safe by the Food and Drug Administration. Limbrel (Flavocoxid) does not come with many of the most common side effects of drugs typically used to treat osteoarthritis, such as stomach ulcers. Generally speaking, Limbrel (Flavocoxid) side effects are the same as those of a placebo sugar pill.
However, Limbrel (Flavocoxid) is not a “dietary supplement,” which is classified and regulated differently by the FDA. A medical food provides nutritional support for a specific disease or condition and is intended to be used under a physician’s supervision.
In June of 2009, Limbrel (Flavocoxid) was reformulated to include zinc. Now the 250 mg and the 500 mg tablets include zinc which is a co-factor required by many enzymes in the body, including those involved in bone and cartilage metabolism. The manufacturer’s marketing materials say that each capsule of Limbrel (Flavocoxid) also contains 50 mg of citrated zinc bisglycinate, which provides 10 mg of elemental zinc. Research also suggests that arthritis patients can have zinc deficiency, according to the manufacturer. At this point, most patients with a prescription for Limbrel (Flavocoxid) are receiving the new formulation.
If your prescription is for strength other than 250 mg or 500 mg, the manufacturer makes the following recommendation – “Your pharmacist should call or fax your prescribing physician for an authorization to dispense the new LIMBREL to you. Or, you can ask your doctor to write a new script for LIMBREL250 or LIMBREL500, specifically showing the new strength 500-50mg or 250-50mg.”
